The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy is recognized as one of the nation’s elite pharmacy programs for education and research. The most recent ranking by U.S. News and World Report places our program at No.3 of the more than 100 pharmacy programs in the country.
Programs
The College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas in Austin offers a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program as well as a joint PharmD/PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) degree. The college also offers a program of studies leading to a Master of Science (MS) degree through its Pharmacotherapy Division and the Health Outcomes and Pharmacy Practice Division. Equally, the college has a PhD program that allows students to choose from six available tracks: Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Pharmacotherapy, Health Outcomes & Pharmacy Practice, and an Interdisciplinary track. Students can also pursue a PhD in Translational Science program that is made available in collaboration with the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Attaining a quality pharmacy education does not come without a cost, so the College of Pharmacy has worked in partnership with generous donors to establish a wealth of scholarship opportunities. The College of Pharmacy scholarship application is now open. Apply today to receive funds to help with college expenses. Approximately 85% of our students received some form of financial assistance from UT Austin’s Student Financial Services and/or the College of Pharmacy. The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) has granted the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program accreditation status through June 30, 2025.The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) reaffirmed the University’s accreditation in 2008.

The top 10 percent of earners in this field made more than $145,910 and the lowest 10 percent made less than $89,280 that year. You can apply for pharmacist jobs directly if you see an open posting, but there are many pharmacist staffing services that recruit pharmacists on behalf of hospitals, pharmacies, and other organizations that are looking for them.You should also make professional contacts through the clinical training and rotations you complete as part of your Pharm.D. program. These contacts can be valuable sources of information about job openings. Pharmacists in all states must obtain a license to practice. Licensure typically involves completing an accredited Pharm.D. program and passing two licensing examinations: the North American Pharmacist Licensing Exam (NAPLEX) and the Multi-State Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam (MPJE).
